HIV/AIDS Coinfection
The risk of developing tuberculosis (TB) is estimated to be between 26 and 31 times greater in people living with HIV (PLHIV) than among those without HIV infection. In 2013 there were 9 million new cases of TB, of which 1.1 million were among people living with HIV.
This is because HIV attacks the body’s immune cells, making it harder for the the person living with HIV to fight of infection if exposed. Additionally, sometimes people have latent TB
